Summer leagues begin play June 4

Plans are complete for HockeyBuff’s upcoming summer season. Here are the details.

Team cost: $2,400, includes $330 in referee fees. Individual player fees are determined on a team-by-team basis.

Season: 10 regular season games, starting June 4. Regular season concludes Aug. 8. Playoffs run Aug. 13-16.

Game nights: We play a mix of Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Divisions, playoff format:

  • Advanced Division returns 5 of 6 teams (Indians, O’Bannon & Davis, Caputi’s, Al Ross and Randaccio Builders, plus a new team from Niagara University Rink. Teams play each other twice, tip four make single-elimination playoffs.
  • Intermediate Division returns six of eight teams (Ale House, Danes, Griffin’s Pub, Sharks, Cutting Edge and Tribe) plus two new teams. Teams will split into two divisions of four teams. You’ll play everyone in your division twice, in the other division once. Top three teams from each division make single-elimination playoffs.

Payment: Players must register online prior to first game, make payment in full and provide proof of USA Hockey insurance. Teams with college players need to make sure to get insurance questions resolved early, as there tends to be confusion each season.

Eligibility: Players must be 18 by the start of the season and there are a handful of players who must sit suspensions that carry over from the playoffs last August.

Ale House wins Sunday league playoff title

A belated congratulations to Amherst Ale House for capturing the Sunday league playoff championship.

Ale House, Tribe in rubber match

The Tribe defeated Ale House last night in a must-win game to force a final game Sunday for the playoff championship. The two teams will play at 9 p.m.

The Tribe advanced to the finals by defeating the Danes 7-4 on Saturday.

Ale House advances to title game

Amherst Ale House defeated the No. 1 seeded Tribe 4-2 on Sunday, moving to within one victory of the Sunday league playoff title.

In other action, the Danes defeated Griffin’s Pub 8-5 to stay alive. They’ll play the Tribe this coming Saturday at 9:30 p.m., with the winner playing Ale House on Sunday at 9 p.m.

Todd Graci of the Tribe and Bill Grillo of the Danes are out the balance of the playoffs because of their fighting penalties last week.

Icemen win 35+ playoffs; upcoming Sunday games

Congrats to the Icemen for their 7-3 victory Tuesday over Abbey Mecca to capture the playoff title for the Elite 35+ League league. The Icemen also captured the regular season title.

Sunday League playoffs continue this weekend. Here is the schedule:

Game 5: Sunday, March 11. 9 pm. Olympic, Tribe vs. Ale House. Winner advances to championship round, Game 8.

Game 6: Sunday, March 11, 10 pm, Feature, Danes vs. Griffin’s Pub. Loser eliminated.

Game 7, Saturday, March 17, 9:30 pm, Olympic, Loser of Game 5 vs. Winner of Game 6. Loser eliminated, winner advances to championship round.

Game 8: Sunday, March 18, 9 pm, Olympic, Championship game, Winner of Game 5 vs. Winner of Game 7. If the team with no losses wins, they take the title. If they lose, a rubber match is played the next night.

Game 9, Sunday, March 25, 9 pm, Feature, repeat pairing in Game 8 if necessary.
