Title games set

HockeyBuff’s playoff championship games are set for Thursday. Here is the schedule:

  • Thursday, August 21, 8:30 p.m., Feature – Intermediate Division championship, Dragons vs. Basil.
  • Thursday, August 21, 8:45 p.m. Olympic – Advanced Division Championship, Whalers vs. Tioga Tavern.

Here is the playoff schedule for the week:

  • Monday, Aug. 18th, 8:30 p.m., NHL#2 – Intermediate Division, Seeds 1-4 (Dragons vs. Flying Anvils)
  • Monday, Aug. 18, 10 p.m., NHL#2 – Intermediate Division, Seeds 2-3 (Tribe vs. Basil)
  • Tuesday, Aug. 19, 8:30 p.m.,NHL#2 – Advanced Divisions, Seeds 1-4 (UB Dental vs.Whalers)
  • Tuesday, Aug. 19, 10 p.m., NHL#2 – Advanced Divisions, Seeds 2-3 (Tioga Tavern vs. Randaccio)
  • Thursday, August 21, 8:30 p.m., Feature – Intermediate Division championship
  • Thursday, August 21, 8:45 p.m. Olympic – Advanced Division Championship

Rules

  • Players must play in at least four regular-season games to be eligible for playoffs.
  • All players must bring their diver’s license or other photo ID to the rink to present in the locker room in the event their eligibility is challenged. 
  • Teams get one-time out per playoff game.
  • Preliminary round games tied at the end of regulation will then play a five-minute, five-on-five sudden death period. If game is still tied, a three-man shoot-out will follow. If game remains tied, new shooters must be used in sudden-death format until the team with the fewest players exhausts its bench. Both teams can then start recycling shooters.
  • Championship games tied at the end of regulation will play a 10-minute, five-on-five sudden-death period. If game remains tied, teams will play four-on-four ten-minute periods until someone scores. There will be no shootout.
  • Winning teams win HockeyBuff merchandise.

Player suspensions

The following players are suspended three games for their fighting majors on July 23:

  • Nasty Beavers: Robert Adams, No. 18, and Alan Krytus, No. 77.
  • Tribe: Frank Downing, No. 10, and Mike Piscatelli, No. 18.

These players will be eligible to play again for the playoff, which begin Aug. 18.

Anyone caught playing while under suspension is expelled from the league, their team forfeits any games they play in, and their captain faces discipline, including suspension, for allowing them to play.

 Josh Cappello, No. 9 of the Nasty Beavers, received a game misconduct this week and must sit next week’s game.
